Thank You

You may or may not feel like reading the whole write up and that’s alright because this is not about me this time. It is about you and I am writing this just to thank you. Thank you for everything you could think of and everything that you have done to make the person I am.

I may have met you yesterday or maybe we haven’t talked since a long time. You may know the person I am today or maybe you know me differently. But today none of these matter because you are a wonder who touched my life for ample time to give it a beautiful turn. I may not be the best person you know but you helped me to improve a great deal and I am thankful for that.

If we are in touch, you must be knowing that I write, I post it, I share it, sometimes I am appreciated for it, sometimes I am ignored and this continues. But whenever I write about women related issue, the kind of response I get is overwhelming for me. I am applauded and I get motivated by the remarks. But amidst that happy feeling and sense of doing something nice there is something that doesn’t feel pleasant. I am praised for being able to understand and write about woman/girl. I am appreciated for highlighting a fragment of daily struggle of their life. But I did no favour to anyone of you. I just took care of my responsibility. You are an incredible creation of god, the most beautiful and majestic one. The amount of patience, kindness, love and affection you possess is astonishing for a meagre person like me. I am amazed by you and I am thankful for your presence in my life in whatever extent it may be because even a pinch of angelic touch can be magical. So thank you.

Through my write ups I tried to show my gratitude to you. You may be my classmate whom I used to tease, my relative, my accomplice ,my confidant, my best friend, my foe, an acquaintance, my sister with or without blood relation, my love or my crush. In whichever capacity you were associated to me I thank you.

A little bit of sensitivity, empathy and sense of equality has made me see you in a very different light and trust me, respect for you is growing more and more each day. The way you thrive through all the struggles and all the constrains sounds so inspiring. Gautam Buddha said, “Gratitude turns what we have into enough”. This has been a magical sutra that has worked for me. I treasure what we have as it gave me insight and perspective. It made me a person who looks into the mirror with dignity and pride. It cannot suffice and duly express, but thank you is all I have.

Be more human, Be more Indian

We all must have gone through the history of Colonial India where the phrase “Dogs and Indians not allowed” was common to see on government buildings and other public places.  When I read this for the first time, in junior class, I could not synthesize the fact that Indians were treated in this manner in their own country. I did hurt to imagine myself standing in front of a railway coach but unable to enter it or going to because I was an Indian. I am sure it must have affected minds of many of us in a similar manner. But did we as a nation learn anything from that? Recently we celebrated our 70 th Independence day and the same question was put before us, independence from whom and independence of what? Each year I see people flooding social media with their short lived patriotism. But the real independence and sense of patriotism lies in, to start with, learning to be considerate towards fellow citizens. I don’t mean to talk of high and hefty ideals. This thought...
